Moons, stars, comets, and other heavenly phenomena were popular motifs in clothing and jewelry. This celestial brooch is a delightful example of the trend. The 14k gold star has eight rippling rays, each bead set with a row of graduated pearls. A raspberry-red ruby is claw set at the star's fiery heart. Engraved detail embellishes the tip of each ray. The brooch finishes with a c-clasp and a jump ring bale, enabling it to be worn as a pendant. This radiant star is certain to brighten any outfit. Circa 1890.
